Restaurant

Traditional pub food is available; all food is prepared from locally sought ingredients. Food is served throughout the pubs restaurant area, all is served everyday besides a Monday and Tuesday evenings. Sunday carvery is available 12pm-6pm.

Accomodation

There is accommodation available for all customers wishing to spend the night; there are two double rooms available. All rooms are en-suite and have TV and tea and coffee making facilities, to reserve a room call 01206 330 459.

Function Room

The restaurant can be used to cater for all functions including birthdays, christenings and many more. They can accommodate up to 50 guests with sit down meals and 80 guests at a buffet. All food can also be provided.

Real Ales

There are four real ales available including Abbott, IPA, Woodford’s Wherry and guest ale changing regularly.

Wine Selection

A wide selection of wines are available including red, white and rose. There is also a selection of world wines available from the wine menu.

Draught Beers

Carlsberg, Carlsberg Export, Beck’s Vier, Carlsberg Extra Cold, Guinness and Scrumpy Jacks are available all day.

The Hare & Hounds is approximately a 400 year old freehouse pub set on the Heath in the beautiful village of Layer Breton Essex, five minutes drive from Colchester zoo. They have many traditional features including the famous “well table” requested regularly by their customers. They serve a full selection of draught beers, wine and spirits for your enjoyment along with a range of real ale and soft drinks for all the non-drinkers and drivers. With its great atmosphere and warm and friendly welcome this makes it a fantastic place for everyone one to be, young or old. Customer will never go hungry as they offer a selection of pub food served throughout the pub’s restaurant; all food is quality home cooked food with all locally sourced ingredients delivered daily. Situated on the premises there is a beer garden, which is a great place to sit and relax with a refreshing drink or a tasty meal during the summer months, this is also a great place to accommodate all those customers that smoke. With disabled facilities and a car park makes the Hare & Hounds a suitable place for all. That’s not forgetting the excellent entertainment evenings that take place, with live music and quizzes; these are all fantastic nights for everyone, there is also a bouncy castle at the weekends during good weather, also a beer festival annually third week in July and Thursday –Sunday Hog roast/BBQ and live music all available during the summer.
