The pub nestles beneath the ramparts of the Ypres Tower to the south east of the Citadel of Rye – reached by the 1697 Gun Garden steps – and has been looking after locals and visitors since the 1600′s. Rye has a huge number of local food suppliers, not least the Rye Bay fishing fleet which moors within 150m of the pub. As a result, we often have Rye Bay Scallops, Rye Bay Plaice, local crab and John Dory on our seasonal menu. We offer a lunch and dinnertime menu, which will be updated in the very near future. We can get very busy at times, so it’s worth calling beforehand to guarantee a table. The Ypres has the only large pub garden in the Citadel, with fantastic views across the Romney Marsh and the local rivers. It makes a great place to watch the sunset and in the summer hosts lots of live events. On Friday and Sunday nights, The Wipers hosts live free music. The band usually starts at 9.30pm/7.00pm - for full listings see our ‘Calendar’ section.
