Detailed Information

This historic building which is linked to Tamworth Castle is set back from the main road, two minutes from the town centre, with a very large car park, surrounded by a beautiful beer garden tat backs on to the river Tame. The present Moat House was built in 1572, although there are much earlier references. You cannot fail to fall in love with the imposing stature of the building. Until the 19th century this impressive building was a private residence owned over the years by the Comberford Fox Littleton, Willington and Townsend families. In 1619 prince Charles 1st stayed with the Comberford family, while his father, King James stayed at the castle during a royal visit. In 1815 the building became lunatic asylum. Reputedly haunted there is said to be 15 spirits, which of one is a young girl named Emily. There is also an unusual late 18th century Gazebo in the garden, with a wind dial painted on the ceiling. The Moat House is a Grade II* listed building and is a perfect choice for your function. It is impressive, and romantic; as well as being as friendly and welcoming. The Moat House makes the perfect setting for those idyllic photos to capture your special day or event.
