The Bunch of Grapes was built in 1851 to slake the thirsts of workers in the nearby Brown Lenox chainworks. Situated next to an old canal lock – a small remainder of the Glamorganshire Canal, The Bunch is a building steeped in history. The pub has been in the hands of the Otley family since the early 1980s, with Nick Otley taking over in 2000 after a successful career in fashion photography. His travels led to the vision of The Bunch of Grapes as a culinary destination and centre of excellence for Real Ale – a vision that has been sucessfully curated over the years and sees us now as an award winning gastropub and a destination for lovers of excellent beer. Our years of experience in the industry have led us to our current outlook and ambition – to reclaim and redefine the term ‘gastropub’ as somewhere that can cater for many, offering a homely welcome as well as a real sense of occasion, with menus that deliver the ethos that we’ve built our name on. Namely, championing British suppliers (Welsh wherever we can) and seasonal availability. From our hot ‘bar bites’ to our Lunch and Evening menus that offer classic gastropub choices plus more elaborate restaurant meals, everything is baked, butchered and prepared on site by our small, tight-knit kitchen team.
