The Muddiford Inn was previously known as the New Inn at Muddiford. It is a former 16c Coaching Inn situated on the Barnstaple/Ilfracombe Road. Probably one of the original chains of New Inns established by Queen Elizabeth I. It is purported to have Ghostly inhabitants and various odd happenings do occur without explanation. In 1934 there are photographs showing it as the New Inn, where it was run as a small hotel employing Chambermaids and a full title of Staff. During World War II the New Inn was used as an Army Catering Corp Base, the rooms being used for the Servicemen and women and the Restaurant for their dining needs. The Muddiford Inn is a family run business.
