Detailed Information

The Muddiford Inn was previously known as the New Inn at Muddiford. It is a former 16c Coaching Inn situated on the Barnstaple/Ilfracombe Road. Probably one of the original chains of New Inns established by Queen Elizabeth I. It is purported to have Ghostly inhabitants and various odd happenings do occur without explanation. In 1934 there are photographs showing it as the New Inn, where it was run as a small hotel employing Chambermaids and a full title of Staff. During World War II the New Inn was used as an Army Catering Corp Base, the rooms being used for the Servicemen and women and the Restaurant for their dining needs. The Muddiford Inn is a family run business. Excellent quality local food is prepared and cooked to order by a fully qualified Michelin trained Chef, Nigel Powell, who takes great pride in the meals served to his customers and welcomes their compliments. He also has a reputation for his large portions. There is an excellent A la Carte Menu which changes regularly, together with a Specials Board, Bar and Grill Menu. He makes his own special Ice creams and bread. The Chef fully understands dietary requirements and is always pleased to ensure everything is as required. We have been told by our customers that we are the Best thing to happen to Devon and frequently told ˜The best meal they have had in their lives. With the extensive choice of fine Wines and Ales and, in the cooler months, a welcoming log burning fire in the Bar, where folks can enjoy a game of Pool or Darts or just sit and relax in the comfortable understated ambience. The Staff are friendly and attentive. There is a very large garden with a babbling stream which is soothing and relaxing. The Car Park is large and accommodating. Families are welcome and we are dog friendly. We have regular Quiz Nights and occasional live music and Special Events.
