The Mannamead originally started life as a bank listed as far back as the 1870’s. The name Mannamead originated from the Anglo-Saxon phrase ‘Gemoene Moed’ meaning ‘Communal Fields’. The pub is situated on the famous Mutely Plain, which was so called after the Anglo-Saxon word ‘Mot-Leah’ meaning ‘a clearing where meetings are held’. This name reflects the overall atmosphere and aura of the pub today as a place where people meet and make good times.
